Sensations

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Chinese Gestural Painting features works by the painter Mzyellow at the Chácara do Céu Museum, located at the top of Santa Teresa. In addition to presenting us with a vibrant and visceral collection composed of works in various formats—navigating the paths of abstraction and Chinese tradition—the exhibition also features a large-scale painting over 15 meters long.

More than 30 paintings make up a panorama of the abstract and gestural works by Chinese artist Mzyellow [1957 – ]. Produced in contemporary China, with reverberations of the economic and social changes that have occurred in the country over the last 30 years, the collection detaches itself from the semantic meaning of calligraphic writing to emphasize its expressiveness. Mz transforms calligraphy, one of the highest cultural and artistic expressions of the Chinese people, into a new gestural and visual language.
